 About the artist

I am an artist, mother, teacher and adventurer. I was raised in Horseshoe Bay, West Vancouver by an outdoorsy family that adventured in the mountains during the winter and sailed the B.C. coast during the summer. I have lived in Victoria and Vancouver and now love calling Comox Valley my home. I enjoy art making, hiking, yoga and exploring the forest, mountains and beaches with my husband and young daughter. I started my formal art training with a Studio Arts Diploma at Capilano College and went on to complete my Bachelor of Fine Art at the University of Victoria, majoring in Visual Arts and Art History.

I have exhibited my landscape paintings in galleries in Greater Vancouver and Comox Valley. Locally I have exhibited at Art Alchemy, the Comox Valley Art Gallery Gift Shop, The Central Island Studio Tour and several cafes.

About the artwork

Growing up on the West Coast has provided the opportunity for me to become intimately connected to the natural world. I find inspiration in the subtle, quiet changes in weather and season that are constantly taking place on the coast, like the way the fog rolls down the mountain and then thins and recedes to reveal a small patch of deep blue sky. I am moved by those things that could easily be overlooked because of their impermanence, but are beautiful and resonant in their transformation. I find a sense of calm in witnessing the beauty of time pressing changes in nature.

I create landscapes that I would like to walk into if I could. Inspired by nature and my travels, I create art using acrylic and mixed media painting, photography, collage and printmaking. Each painting is a little journey. I begin with the inspiration of a certain mood or colour. I work intuitively, layering drawings, washes, brushwork and collage elements, responding to the colours and shapes that emerge. I often work to music and love to get lost in the flow of painting and drawing. I hope that viewers will connect to a certain feeling, like calm, they get from my paintings. Perhaps the work will remind them of somewhere they have travelled or bring them a feeling of happiness or stillness. I truly enjoy hearing the stories that viewers bring to my work.
