Inktober: 5 Minute Flowers

Create beautiful flower prints in 5 minutes using simple supplies. These flowers really pop because of the way black contrasts on the white paper and the gold shimmer finishes it perfectly. Try this technique for a postcard, art journaling background or to create collage fodder.

SUPPLIES

  • Flowers Watercolour paper or collage papers, old book pages etc.

  • Liquitex Ink in Carbon Black (I also like Winsor & Newton Black India Ink) #1 Rigger Brush ** Remember to wash this off quickly so you don't ruin your brush**

  • BEAM Paints Dreamer’s Gold watercolour paint (or iridescent acrylic ink or acrylic paint thinned with water)

  • Water jar

I am an artist and educator on Vancouver Island, Canada. My art is deeply inspired by my connection to the landscape and the natural world. I am passionate about using creativity as a practice in mindfulness and self-care. Creativity has been an important part of my healing process during different phases of my life, including my ongoing recovery from a brain injury in 2022.

Trained in Fine Arts, Art History, and Elementary Education, I love teaching watercolour and journaling to local and international communities. I currently host an online art membership called The Calm Waters Collective, where we paint, journal and connect with each other through lessons and live calls. I also enjoy trail running, backpacking, skiing, and yoga, and exploring the island with my husband and two daughters.
