Orca in the Stars Lesson

One of the most beautiful animals, where I live in the Pacific Northwest, is the orca whale. To me, orcas represent strength, beauty, inner wisdom and resilience. In this lesson we will paint a serene, atmospheric undersea background in watercolour. Then we will draw and paint an orca whale and a collection of starfish on separate watercolour paper, making them into collage elements that we will arrange and adhere to our page. We will also capture words that represent our inner wisdom and guidance, connecting them to our sea of stars. (*originally created for LifeBook 2021, I’m happy I can now share with you!)

Lesson PDF and TEMPLATE are below the video on this page. Enjoy!

I am an artist and educator on Vancouver Island, Canada. My art is deeply inspired by my connection to the landscape and the natural world. I am passionate about using creativity as a practice in mindfulness and self-care. Creativity has been an important part of my healing process during different phases of my life, including my ongoing recovery from a brain injury in 2022.

Trained in Fine Arts, Art History, and Elementary Education, I love teaching watercolour and journaling to local and international communities. I currently host an online art membership called The Calm Waters Collective, where we paint, journal and connect with each other through lessons and live calls. I also enjoy trail running, backpacking, skiing, and yoga, and exploring the island with my husband and two daughters.
